What is counselling?
Everyone’s story begins somewhere. Sometimes it begins with one conversation. A space to pause, be heard, make sense of what is happening and gently explore what comes next. You do not need perfect words to begin.
More than talking
Counselling is a collaborative process with a trained professional. It offers time to explore thoughts, feelings and experiences without judgement, develop self-understanding and consider changes that matter to you. Your perspective, strengths and goals are central to the work. Conversation. Walking. Creating. Thinking. Laughing. Silence.
What might bring someone to counselling?
People seek counselling for many reasons: stress or feeling overwhelmed, changes in life, relationship or family difficulties, grief, identity, confidence, or wanting to understand themselves better. You do not have to wait for a crisis to ask for support.
What happens in the first session?
The first meeting is a chance to get to know one another, talk about what has brought you here and ask questions. You can discuss what you hope for, what has helped before and what makes it easier to feel comfortable. It is okay to feel unsure or to take time before sharing something difficult. Together, you and your counsellor can consider a focus and possible next steps.
Your pace, your voice
Counselling is a shared process. You can ask for clarification, give feedback and discuss whether the approach feels right for you. The number and frequency of sessions depend on your needs and are discussed together; outcomes and timeframes vary.
Privacy and confidentiality
What you share is treated as private, with limits where safety or legal duties require information to be shared. These limits, consent and any involvement of family or support people should be explained before counselling begins. For young people, privacy and consent arrangements depend on age and circumstances.
🌿 My approach
I don’t believe people need to fit neatly into boxes. Every person brings their own experiences, strengths, challenges and hopes. My role isn’t to tell you who to become. It’s to create a space where you can discover that for yourself.
Sometimes the first step isn’t finding answers. It’s finding someone willing to listen.
